Why is software hard?

The Morning Paper blog has an excellent analysis of a paper from 1987, No Silver Bullet – essence and accident in software engineering. Even though the paper is 30 years old, it’s still relevant. If you find yourself asking why there continue to be bugs in software, it’s worth reading.
